Changes to the 2019 Start Dates 

Wednesday 30th January – Enrolments and Uniform Sale
Monday 4th February – Year 9 & Year 13 only

Europe Physics Trip will attend S'Cool Lab Plus+ at CERN 

The Europe Physics Trip which is scheduled to depart in April next year are thrilled to announce they have been successful in their goal of attending the S'Cool Lab Plus+ at CERN next year.
 
There, the students will have direct access to scientists who work at CERN, take part in educational Physics research, participate in hands on experiments. S'Cool LAB PLUS+ consists of two consecutive workshops of 75-90 minutes each.
 
In one session, students take part in a S'Cool LAB Cloud Chamber Workshop. In the other session, students carry out one of the other S'Cool LAB Experiments. Working in small groups of 2-4 participants each, students manipulate equipment and (sometimes) associated software to explore particle physics phenomena connected to CERN's research and technologies. They make predictions, observe their experiments, and discuss their results with each other. 

Each session is delivered by a S'Cool LAB Tutor - a specially-trained volunteer from CERN's scientific community.

The students are extremely lucky to be attending this, they are in fact, the first New Zealand school to be given this opportunity.

3 New Karate Black Belts at Otumoetai College 

Ashleigh Baker (Year 11), Jack Baker (Year 9) and Francesca McLean (Year 9) sat their Black belt exam in Shotokan Karate (WSKF). On Saturday 1st September all three were awarded their WSKF (World Shotokan Karate Federation) Shodan Black Belts.

The grading panel consisted of Sensei Mike Dukas, 8th Dan and technical advisor (South Africa), Sensei Brian Dukas, 6th Dan (South Africa) and Sensei Rangi Smith, 5th Dan (New Zealand). All three students train with Bay Karate at the Otumoetai College Action Centre.

Lots of work and a huge achievement - we are very proud of them!
