Learning – Year 11
At Ōtūmoetai College, all Year 11 students study six subjects. Two of those six subjects will be English and Mathematics to be able to gain NCEA Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy. Students are strongly encouraged to choose Science.
Students are encouraged to take a maximum of two subjects from any one Learning Area. This is to keep options open into Year 12.

Learning – Year 12
Students entering Year 12 can select five or six subjects. If selecting five subjects then they will also have to select L2 Year 12 Study.
All Year 12 students must study at least one of English or Te Reo Māori to be able to gain UE Literacy. You may study both.
Mathematics is highly recommended but is not compulsory.
There is a wide range of subjects available at Level 2 and students following a Degree Course Pathway should carefully consider which subjects lead on to Level 3 subjects.
Year 12 students may undertake a multilevel course with subjects at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 based on ability and meeting prerequisites.

Learning – Year 13
Students entering Year 13 will study FIVE subjects.
Most Level 3 subjects have prerequisites which must be met before the subject can be taken. You must meet the prerequisites or seek HoD approval. There are no compulsory subjects.
Year 13 students may undertake a multilevel course with subjects at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 based on ability and meeting prerequisites.
