“Last Wednesday we had an amazing afternoon surfing…Wow!

So impressed with the group. Those who got out there and were first timers… surfing like old timers! Those who worked hard on your fears, those that were supportive of others and those who are not new to surfing but improved on your skills. Kai pai” – Mrs King

Kura Kai Kaupapa

Kia ora koutou

Nō mātou, ko te kāreti o Ōtūmoetai te whiwhi ki te noho hei kaitautoko o tēnei kaupapa mīharo, arā ko te Kura Kai.

Here, at Ōtūmoetai College, we have the privilege of supporting and being part of an incredible initiative called Kura Kai, which is a kaupapa based on the value of manaakitanga (generosity and caring for others).

As part of this kaupapa, volunteers from the community demonstrate the value of manaakitanga by lovingly preparing meals on the notion of “whānau cooking for whānau”. These are then delivered to our Kura Kai freezer before being distributed to rangatahi and their whānau within our kura, during times of need.

Although we do have a handful of volunteers providing meals for our Kura Kai freezer, we could always use more. Nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou ka ora ai te iwi – with your basket and my basket, the people will live.

Therefore, whether you are a kaiako (teacher), a tauira (student) or a parent, if you would like to know more about how you could contribute to this kaupapa, please visit the Kura Kai website here.

If you would also like to know about how we can support or manaaki you or someone you know by assisting with meals, then please feel free to contact us on kurakai@otc.school.nz

Kei konei mātou ki te āwhina i a koutou, nō reira, kaua e whakamā (We are here to help, so please don’t be afraid to ask).

Nāku iti noa, nā, Maramena Ballantyne – (Teacher Kaiako of Te Reo Māori)
