Inaugural Badminton Exchange with Whakatāne High School

Ōtūmoetai College hosted the inaugural Badminton exchange with Whakatāne High School on Wednesday, June 19th. In a very competitive tournament, with both schools fielding high-quality teams, the tie was shared with two wins each.

The Ōtūmoetai Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams both won their ties, while the Senior Boys and Senior Girls played well, but went down to quality opposition.  There were some amazing and very tough three-setters, but good development, and it bodes well for the lead into National Secondary Schools.

  • Junior Boys defeated Whakatāne 5 – 2 (played 7 games only)
  • Junior Girls defeated Whakatāne 7 – 1
  • Senior Girls lost to Whakatāne 7 – 1
  • Senior Boys lost to Whakatāne 5 – 3

Beyond the individual winners, being a new initiative, the tournament fostered a positive environment with players who demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout. This event highlights badminton’s growing popularity at Ōtūmoetai College.
