Local Legends Grant

WE DID IT!

Thank you @taurangacrossing for this amazing opportunity to improve our basketball facilities and thank you to all those who voted and the extraordinary support from our students, staff and community.

Press release below from Tauranga Crossing…

Congratulations to our Sixteenth Local Legends Grant Winner – Ōtūmoetai College!

With an outpouring of support from the local community, and a record-setting number of votes, we are proud to announce Ōtūmoetai College as the latest recipient of our $10,000 Local Legends Grant.

Ōtūmoetai College will be utilising the grant funds to upgrade their basketball court with a new Plexipave surface and a fresh mural, ensuring a top-tier facility for practice and play. This enhancement not only benefits the school’s growing basketball program but also provides a safe and enjoyable space for students and the wider community to make use of.

Basketball is the fastest growing sport at Ōtūmoetai College, with team enrolments doubling in the last year, and is a sport which increases students’ physical and mental wellbeing, developing motor skills, goal setting, and teamwork. The investment into their basketball facilities will not only help to meet the current demands of the sport but also support future aspirations in sports and recreation pathways.

Tauranga Crossing want to celebrate Ōtūmoetai College as the latest Local Legends Grant recipient and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of their upgraded facilities on the school and the local community.
