Greetings family

The leaders in the front and the supporters in the back is the main theme for today. What a beautiful day it was friends. We gathered as one on Monday 16 September at Okohanga to celebrate the Māori language.

Big acknowledgement to the senior students who facilitated this day, Paiana Smith, Caylah-Marie Tapara, Parepaora Falwasser-Kipa, Chayn Tahau & Jerry Ronaki-Kissling.

You all did a very good job.

Acknowledgement also to Jamie Davis in your help supplying the ki-o-rahi equipment.

Be strong to speak Māori.

Thanks friends.

Senior Art/Toi Exhibition

Our Senior Art/Toi Exhibition was held last Tuesday night with over 150 pieces of work on display. It was a fabulous night with music, kai and lots of whānau that had come to support their child.

Below are some images from the night with the Overall Winner going to Lucy Couston (Year 13) with her realist paintings on food.

New Zealand Spelling Bee Regional Semi Finals

This Monday, Ms Secker and Ms Stephen took 8 students to the regional semi-finals of the New Zealand Spelling Bee in Hamilton. This competition requires good memory but also a broad vocabulary, usually gained by reading widely and diversely – it is very hard to spell a word you have never heard of before.

The following students proved they were up to the challenge:
Lucy Rout, Devaani Adhikaari, Davin Patel, Abbey Muspratt, Lara Poulton, Ava Bryant, Elliott Swney, and Toby Stephen.

Much to his credit, one student, Toby Stephen, made it into the final! This means he gets to represent us at the New Zealand National Final in Wellington, in November. Well done Toby, and to all of the participants, for competing and doing us proud.

Tauranga city centre will be alive with colour and vibrancy as the lights switch on for a never-before-seen light trail launching in the city centre on Friday, 20th September.
