Mental Health Awareness Week

This week, we celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week with a variety of fun and engaging activities designed to promote positive mental health and well-being. From form class colouring competitions and kindness cards to lunchtime sports and free positive message stickers, there was something for everyone!

We encouraged our students to participate in these activities and continue being mindful of their mental health throughout the year.

In addition to Mental Health Awareness week this week, Thursday lunchtime, we also held our annual Shave for a Cure event in the quad.

Five brave students raised over $2,600 to support Kiwis living with blood cancer by shaving their heads. With 8 Kiwis diagnosed with blood cancer each day, many experience hair loss due to chemotherapy.

By participating in Shave for a Cure, our students showed their solidarity and helped fund research towards a cure. We also had the generous support of Rhymis, one of our local barbers from Barber Spence, who donated his time and expertise to this worthy cause.

Bus 25 Information for Parents

Information for parents and students that take Bus 25.

Due to the closure of the lower part of Youngson Road from 25 September to 27 October, students in this area will need to travel on R17. This affects R25 passengers living in Barrett Road, Old Highway and Youngson Road.

It is anticipated that the bus will be able to stop at the corner of Old Highway and Youngson Road. If this location turns out to be unsuitable for parents, they can use any other stop on the R17 route. The R17 bus passes the corner of Old Highway and Youngson Road at 7.31am and gets to Barrett Road at 7.34am.

Smokefree Rockquest National Final

The Smokefree Rockquest National Final was held on Saturday 21 September at Sky City Theatre in Auckland. It was a thrilling gig with 10 bands (whittled down from 900) bringing their best performances!

Unfortunately, neither of our acts placed but they both put on a performance to be remembered and should be so proud of themselves. Their weekend was filled with media training, filming, photographs, interviews, mentoring, family, food, and friends.

Bloody Overalls – Fletcher Harbutt, Tyler Sainty, Mitchell Shannon
Aisha & Bebe – Aisha Scott, Bebe Campbell

Thank you for all your support of these bands and the Music Department. It is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Mr Matt Bodman

Lights on Tauranga – FREE City Centre Light Trail

Tauranga city centre will be alive with colour and vibrancy as the lights switch on for a never-before-seen light trail launching in the city centre on Friday, 20th September.

‘Lights on Tauranga’ showcases eight stunning installations by renowned light artist Angus Muir, and eight lit-up shop front windows highlighting the ‘Reimagine Tauranga’ exhibition where over 220 local school children have worked alongside well-known New Zealand artist, Sara Hughes.

Also featured in the trail are light projections, four larger-than-life origami ‘paper pals’ and our much-loved permanent lighting features at Tunks Reserve and Wharf Street.

The free self-guided light trail runs from 20 September to 6 October 2024 with lights on between 4.30pm–10.30pm every night.

Visit www.whatsontauranga.co.nz/light-trail for all the details.
