A Culinary Adventure for a Worthy Cause
Ōtūmoetai College students recently rolled up their sleeves and donned their aprons to lend a hand to Kura Kai, a local charitable organisation dedicated to providing nutritious frozen meals to the community. The enthusiastic group of students spent an afternoon in the Ōtūmoetai College kitchen, preparing and cooking a range of delicious meals that will be distributed to those in need over the lead up to Christmas.
The initiative aimed to instill a sense of community service and empathy in the students. By directly contributing to the preparation of meals, students gained a firsthand understanding of the impact their efforts can have on the lives of others.
The afternoon was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and culinary creativity. Students worked together to peel potatoes and assemble hearty meals to fill the freezer. The cooked meals were then packaged and frozen, ready to be distributed to families and individuals facing food insecurity. The students’ efforts will undoubtedly bring warmth and nourishment to those in need during the colder months.
Ōtūmoetai College is proud of its students’ commitment to giving back to the community and fostering a culture of compassion and service.
Year 10 Trip to Mauao
On Wednesday 27th November, Year 10 ākonga in Te Whare Māori courses went on a haerenga to Mauao. This excursion was to reinforce the learning that is currently happening in our classes around Tauranga Moanatanga.
We were very fortunate to learn more about significant sites and puna wai (water springs) around Mauao.
