North Island Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball Champs

What an action-packed week it has been for Ōtūmoetai College! Last week, four of our volleyball teams hit the courts at the North Island Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball Championships in Auckland, and they absolutely gave it their all!

Our Junior A Girls and Year 10A Boys kicked off with impressive performances on Day One, winning two out of three games each to qualify for Division One (Top 16). Day Two saw both teams battling fiercely to secure spots in the Top 8, and though they came up just short, their resilience was remarkable. The Y10A Boys were in a three-way tie, but despite beating the team that finished 4th overall in straight sets, they narrowly missed the Quarter-Finals by just 2 points. They ended the tournament in a solid 9th place with a gutsy win over Rosmini. Our Junior A Girls fought hard and finished 16th overall — a fantastic effort at this prestigious event.

Meanwhile, our Junior B Girls and Year 9A Boys had a mix of highs and lows. Both teams faced off against some of the best volleyball talent New Zealand has to offer. The Y9A Boys battled their way through the competition and ended in 23rd place, which we believe might be the highest finish for a Year 9 team at this tournament. The Junior B Girls, competing in Division 3, had a strong campaign with 5 wins and 4 losses, including two tough 3-setters.

A huge congratulations to all of our teams for embodying the school values throughout the tournament.

And of course, a massive thank you to our dedicated coaches and managers — your tireless support, encouragement, and commitment made this volleyball experience possible.

Bay of Plenty Invitational Volleyball Tournament

While we had four junior teams giving their all at the North Island Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball Championships in Auckland, we had another set of high performances right here at home! Five of our junior volleyball teams took to the courts at the Bay of Plenty Invitational Tournament in Tauranga, and they were absolutely outstanding!

A huge congratulations to our Y10B Boys, who finished 2nd place after a thrilling series of matches, showing true grit and determination! Not far behind, our Y9A Girls earned an impressive 3rd place, proving they’re a force to be reckoned with on the court. The Y9B Girls weren’t far behind either, securing a strong 4th place finish — a fantastic result for such a young and talented team! Meanwhile, our Junior C Girls played with great spirit and teamwork, wrapping up the tournament in 7th place.

A massive shout-out to all the players for their dedication and hard work, and a big thank you to our coaches for their unwavering support during the long days of competition. You all made this tournament one to remember!
