Students Spread Christmas Cheer in Ōtūmoetai

The holiday season is a time for reflection, gratitude, and giving. This year, our school has teamed up with the local Ōtūmoetai Social Supermarket to spread festive cheer by helping stock shelves with Christmas gifts for those in need.

On Friday 29th, Ōtūmoetai College students and teachers gathered at the Ōtūmoetai social supermarket, ready to lend a hand. We carefully organized shelves with gifts—from toys to toiletries—ensuring that each item had a place and that families in need could easily find something special to brighten their holiday season.

In addition to stocking the shelves, we crafted a festive cardboard Christmas tree advent calendar. Staff donated money to fund the purchase of sweet treats which customers can select from the tree each day leading up to Christmas. According to John Paine, Manager of the Social Supermarket, it is so much fun for our shoppers to have a treat from the tree!”

Finally, teachers purchased homemade meals made by our food technology teachers. The funds generated were donated to the Social Supermarket to purchase classic board games, sports equipment, and outdoor games like beach cricket and swing ball. These family gifts have been ‘flying off the shelves’.

Thank you to the numerous students, whānau, and teachers who have supported our community through this venture.
