Matariki Art Competition

We were delighted by the range of art pieces we received this year. The winning art work in the senior category was a poem by Manaia Mihirau Rolleston and the winner of the junior category was Leah Tarawa-Luatua with an incredible hue lamp.

School Value – Kia Kotahi – Working Together
As a kura we are focusing on the school value of Kia Kotahi – Working Together which also ties in nicely to our Te Muka Miro model, focusing on Connect.
Students can ask themselves “How can I work together”.
- By working positively with others inside the classroom
- Helping my teachers and offering my assistance
- Picking up rubbish around our kura and placing it in a rubbish bin
- By demonstrating positive role modelling for our teina (juniors)
- Support and awhi for others, not just inside the classroom but on the field, court or stage.
- Be unified as a kura and wear the correct school uniform with pride.
Te Muka Miro: Demonstrating our School Values:
- Connect with others.
- Communicate.
- Acts of kindness
- Shared experiences
- Show concern, care, kindness for others and our environment.
Rising Star Award for Volunteerism
Hannah Richards received a regional award on the 18th June, called the Rising Star Youth Award, from Volunteers Bay of Plenty, for her work with Under The Stars organisation.
They assist the homeless with many things, mainly a hot meal and so every week Hannah collects ingredient from them (often donated surplus, or past best-by food) from various sources, and combines them into something edible/delicious for their clients. The organisation nominated Hannah due to “nothing ever being too much of a challenge for her”.
Thanks so much to Sandra Boubee (mentor for the Student Volunteer Army Committee) for being the driving force behind SVA, which initiated Hannah’s work with Under The Stars.
