Winter Tournament Week – Results and Photos

Last week, a large number of our rangatahi were out across the country representing ŌTC in their respective sports. While there were some fantastic results to celebrate, what stood out most was the way our students represented themselves, their teammates, their whānau and our kura.

Across the week, our students competed with pride, humility and dignity. Win or lose, they put themselves out there, competed hard, supported one another and created memories that will stay with them well beyond their time at ŌTC.

Winter Tournament Week – A week where our student-athletes excelled!
Some fantastic highlights from the week:

1st XI Boys Hockey – Founders Cup Champions
Qualifying for the Rankin Cup in 2027 – the first time in ŌTC history!

Prem 1 Netball – Division C Runners-Up
Achieving their goal of promotion to Division B

U18 Rugby – Hawke’s Bay 10-a-side Runners-Up

2nd XI Girls Hockey – Mary Clinton Cup, 3rd Place

These are some brilliant achievements, but the success of Tournament Week goes well beyond placings and trophies. Every one of our students who stepped onto a court, field or turf wearing the ŌTC colours contributed to a week we can be incredibly proud of.

A huge thank you also needs to go to our coaches, managers, TiCs and staff who travelled with and supported our teams. Tournament Week asks a great deal of these people – long days, early starts, travel, organisation and the responsibility of caring for our rangatahi away from home. None of these opportunities happen without them, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they give to ŌTC Sport.

SUPPORT HANNAH’S JOURNEY TO THE WORLD STAGE! 🛼🌏

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate ŌTC student-athlete Hannah Lines, who has been selected to represent New Zealand at the World Skate Games in Paraguay this October!

Hannah has been artistic roller skating for eight years, building an outstanding record that includes six national titles, a Pacific Cup title and a silver medal at the Asian Games in Korea. Now, in her final year at Ōtūmoetai College, she has earned the opportunity to take on the very best in the world.

Competing internationally comes with significant costs, and Hannah is working hard to help make this opportunity possible — including working at FreshChoice Ōmokoroa alongside her training and studies.

Our ŌTC community can get behind Hannah in three ways:

STRONGER TODAY. PERFORM BETTER TOMORROW. 💪🏽🟢

At Ōtūmoetai College Sport, we believe physical development is not an “extra” — it is an essential part of helping young athletes thrive.

New research reviewing 17 randomised controlled trials across team sports found that structured strength training can:

✅ Reduce injury risk by 30–70%

✅ Improve sprint speed, jump height and power

✅ Enhance movement quality and resilience

✅ Support long-term athletic development and wellbeing

Most importantly, the evidence shows these benefits are especially valuable for youth athletes involved in sports such as football, netball, volleyball, rugby and basketball.

Our ŌTC Strength & Conditioning Programme is designed to do exactly that:

🏋🏽 Build stronger, more resilient athletes

⚡ Improve movement efficiency and athletic performance

🧠 Develop confidence, discipline and physical literacy

🛡 Help reduce preventable injuries and time away from sport

High performance is built over time — not just during a season.

That is why we strongly encourage all ŌTC student-athletes to commit to year-round physical development alongside their sport-specific training. Consistency matters. Quality movement matters. Long-term development matters.

Whether students are aiming for representative honours, premier sport, or simply wanting to enjoy sport for longer and perform at their best, structured S&C training provides the foundation.

  • Stronger athletes.
  • Healthier athletes.
  • Better prepared athletes.

Backing Our Teams: Thank You to Our Valued Sports Sponsors

As we head into the winter sports season, we would like to take a moment to sincerely thank the businesses and sponsors who continue to support sport here at Ōtūmoetai College. Their generosity makes a real difference to the opportunities we can provide for our students.

We are incredibly grateful to Barfoot & Thompson for their support of football and volleyball; Ray White – Greg Bopf for basketball; Ray White – Mark Francis and Pak’nSave Cameron Road for rugby; Marshalls Innovation for their support of rugby and hockey; Seeka and Watts & Hughes Construction for football; and Tauranga ITM for hockey.

These partnerships play a vital role in helping our teams thrive, and we greatly appreciate the commitment these businesses show to our students and wider school community.
