Jake Bailey – Building Resilience
Last week we welcomed Jake Bailey to Ōtūmoetai College. Jake spent the day talking to a large number of our student-athletes where he shared his inspirational story of surviving cancer as a teenager and how the use of positive psychology helped him through his fight for survival and the years beyond. He shared some life changing tips that we could all embed into our daily lives to help build a resilient mindset.
These stories and expert advice were then shared in the evening to an audience of parents, care-givers, sports coaches, and students from our wider community. Thank you to those who attended. I hope you were able to take away some nuggets of advice which can be implemented into your daily life in order to build and develop resilience.
Jake spoke in depth about the Four S Model and how to apply small steps to help us improve our ability to be resilient when life throws us those curve balls. He has shared with us a poster which explains this simple and effective model.
Jake will continue to support our student-athletes and will connect with the Sports Department on a regular basis. Any shared resources will be forwarded on in order to help develop this area of mental toughness which, as Jake explained, is a key component to a happy and successful future.
