Flag Day Celebration

On Friday 23rd of August, Ruamano Kōmiti held a ‘Flag Day’ to celebrate the myriad of cultures and nations represented here at kura.

Staff and students were encouraged to wear cultural dress or display a flag, and they did not disappoint. Manunui took out the whare competition, with Karewa not far behind.

Waikato Itinerant Music Festival

On Friday 23 August, the Ōtūmoetai College Orchestra and the Ōtūmoetai College String Group performed at the Waikato Itinerant Music Festival.

Both groups were awarded a Bronze Award for their amazing efforts, and the Orchestra was given an encouragement award (cash prize from KBB Music) as a developing group who showed great promise.

These groups are made up of a huge range of musicians of all abilities (from beginners to very advanced), and we are thrilled at the way they performed and represented the school.

Congratulations to all students:
Niki-Marie Andrews, Rylee Bell, Ava Bryant, Cara de Monchy, Sierra Dresner, Carly Dunn, Hannah Dunn, Kimber Foot, Caleb Friar, Fianna Gardiner, Chloe Gilmour, Renee Gledhill, Tiana Guy, Evelyn Hawke, Sophie Hock, Rosie Hunt, Joshua Kim, Devon Knill, Rhea Lal, Ivy Liu, Sharon Liu, Anna Mansurova, Alice Martins, Zen Miyanami, Poppy Muir, Kaitlyn Napier, Lena Pruessner, Nrusingha Rath, Takara Smith, Rachel Stevens, Jess Torrey and also Lucy Crowther-Cook from Ōtūmoetai Intermediate.

Ōtūmoetai College Talent Quest

The Talent Quest was a great evening full of wonderful performances from our students. All involved should be very proud and for many that was the first time up on stage in front of an audience that size.

Thank you to all the staff that came and supported the students so appreciate you being there! And for the many of you allowing these students out of class during a very busy time.

In third place we had a rock band which consisted of William Dunn, Enika Daisley, David Choi, Rhys Tinnion and Nathan Murray.

In second place was Luiza Baumert who sang “Stay” by Rihanna.

Our overall winner was Sciennaj Belcher who sang “When We Were Young” by Adele.

A great night filled with lots of laughs thanks to our two MC’s Izzy King and Ariadna Martinez. I’d like to make a special mention to Carlé Steyn and Kiaan Kairuz for singing a lovely duet in Afrikaans.

Shave for a Cure – 26 September

The Student Hauora Committee is bringing back Shave for a Cure on Thursday, 26th September as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Every day, eight Kiwis are diagnosed with blood cancer. This devastating disease disproportionately affects young people, with leukaemia and lymphoma being particularly prevalent.

To show solidarity and raise funds for vital research and support, five brave students have volunteered to shave their heads.

Join us for this inspiring event!

  • When: Thursday, 26th September, Lunchtime (Week 10)
  • Where: The Quad
  • Who: Household name and local barber, Spencer McNeill, will be supervising the shaves.

Students participating/shaving their heads: Jay Kerr, Sam Gooderham, Corbyn Patterson, Christian Hays, and Felix Ford.
