Volleyball Bay of Plenty Junior Champs 2024 – Done and Dusted!

What a ride! Our five girls’ teams and three boys’ teams took Rotorua by storm, battling it out over two action-packed weekends! From the adrenaline of the courts to the excitement of travel, it was an unforgettable experience for all our players.

It was truly a sight to see so many Ōtūmoetai College volleyballers giving it their all, representing our school with pride both on and off the court. A massive shout-out to each and every one of our teams for their hard work and determination.

Special shout-out to our Junior A Boys – they went all the way to the semi-finals, falling just short against the eventual champs, but bounced back like legends to take the bronze in a strong performance against Whakatane High School!

Huge thanks to our amazing coaches and managers for their dedication, energy, and support. Without them, none of this would be possible. Their commitment inspires our rangatahi every step of the way.

But the journey doesn’t stop here! Next up: North Island Junior Volleyball Champs in Auckland starting next week. Stay tuned for more updates, epic photos, and hopefully a few cool videos of our teams in action!

BOPSS Year 10 Beach Volleyball Champs

What an electrifying day of beach volleyball at the BOPSS Y10 Beach Volleyball Champs held this Thursday! Our athletes put on a spectacular show, with five girls’ teams and three boys’ teams giving it their all on the sand. Here’s the rundown of the thrilling action:

Boys’ Side: A Day of Victories and Close Calls!

  • Division 1: Huge congratulations to Aiden Taljaardt and Ari Bussenschutt for an outstanding silver medal finish! They fought hard and came up just short in an epic final, but their performance was nothing short of stellar.
  • Division 2: Our two boys’ teams were on fire! Both teams won their Quarter-Final matches, setting up an all-ŌTC Semi-Final. In a nail-biting face-off, Willie Rossouw and Lachlan Green came out on top, and then powering through the final to take gold!
  • Finn Playford and Ashton Jarratt showed incredible resilience, bouncing back from the loss in the semi-final to claim bronze.

Girls’ Side: ŌTC Dominates the Sand!

  • Division 1: Sophie Stocks and Ava Wright fought hard but lost a tight Quarter-Final. Despite the setback, they showed grit and determination, finishing a respectable 5th overall. Well played, girls!
  • Division 2: Our girls’ teams absolutely dominated, with all four teams securing victories to set up an all-ŌTC Semi-Final showdown! The competition was fierce, but Makena Daisley and Annie Park took the gold with an impressive performance, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with on the sand!
  • Big shout-outs to our other teams who made it all the way to the Semi-Finals: Georgia Cook & Indie-Rose Dwyer-Vianello, Fianna Gardner & Ayla Parker, and Fenella Price & Charli McDonald. You all played with heart and skill, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Incredible Teamwork and Sportsmanship!

It was a day packed with high-energy matches, teamwork, and incredible individual performances. ŌTC had a strong presence throughout, and the sportsmanship and positive attitude on display were truly inspiring.

A massive congratulations to all players, and our two student coaches – Devlin Langton & Bradley Wiessing, and finally our Teacher in Charge of Beach Volleyball Tom Collier or better known as TC – you all made this event one to remember!

PS – unfortunately there are no physical medals for Division 2
