Ōtūmoetai College Rowers Shine at February 2025 Regattas

Ōtūmoetai College rowers delivered exceptional performances at the recent New Zealand Club National Championship in Twizel and College Sport regatta last weekend at Karapiro. Our athletes showcased their dedication and skill under clear blue skies and favorable weather conditions. The week was testament to the countless hours of training invested by the athletes, resulting in a series of impressive achievements.

The ŌTC team’s success was highlighted by several standout performances at Karapiro. Arthur Crimmins delivered a masterclass in rowing, securing a well-deserved 1st place in the A final of the Boys U17 single sculls. His dominance continued into the higher age group, where he also earned a commendable 2nd place in the A final of the Boys U18 single sculls. These results underscore Arthur’s exceptional talent and commitment to the sport.

Adding to the weekend’s excitement was a truly remarkable achievement by four ŌTC international students from Germany and Switzerland. Having only taken up rowing four months ago, their rapid progress was nothing short of astonishing. They defied expectations by winning 1st place in the A final U18 Novice quad sculls. Their victory serves as an inspiring example of the power of dedication and teamwork, demonstrating that passion and perseverance can overcome experience. Well done Niki, Katharina, Annika and Carla!

The entire ŌTC rowing team demonstrated remarkable effort throughout the regatta, with numerous crews achieving personal best times and qualifying for finals. The atmosphere was one of camaraderie and support, with rowers cheering each other on from the banks.

Meanwhile in the South Island, Kaia Burney did our kura proud when she continued her impressive form at the NZ Club Championships in Twizel with Tauranga Rowing Club. Kaia achieved a silver medal in the Women’s Intermediate Coxed Eight composite crew with Oamaru and a commendable 7th place in the Women’s Intermediate Double Sculls A final with her TRC partner. Her dedication to the sport and her ability to perform at a high level were evident throughout this national level competition.

Both the NZ Club Champs and College Sport regatta were resounding successes for Ōtūmoetai College rowing. The team’s outstanding performances, coupled with the perfect weather conditions, made for unforgettable events. The results are a testament to the hard work of the athletes, coaches, and support staff, and serve as a promising indicator for the season ahead.
