Young Enterprise 2025

Two of our teams were selected to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges at the Regional Awards Evening. Representing Ōtūmoetai College were:

  •     Wandering Kiwi – Loralei Feist, Stevie Newton, and Victoria Geck
  •     Nourish and Flourish – Olivia Woods, Jasdeep Deol, Becky Doets, and Citlali Keys Flores

Wandering Kiwi created an interactive, reusable road trip bingo game featuring Māori translations, while Nourish and Flourish developed a completely organic hair oil designed to replenish dry and frizzy hair.

At the Regional Awards, our teams achieved outstanding success, receiving the following awards:

  •     Best Product Presentation – Nourish and Flourish
  •     Best Financial Management – Wandering Kiwi
  •     Greatest Contributor to the Young Enterprise program – Nutric+
  •     Young Entrepreneur of the Year – Loralei Feist

A special congratulations to Wandering Kiwi, who was named the Bay of Plenty Wild Card Winner! The team will now have the opportunity to pitch their product to a national panel of judges for a place in the National Finals in Wellington later this year.

We are extremely proud of all our Young Enterprise participants and their amazing achievements!

A heartfelt thank you to Ms Schumacher (Year 13 groups) and Mrs Tisch (Year 12 groups) for your dedication, inspiration, and encouragement you’ve given to your students throughout the year.

High School Exchanges – Online Meeting 21 October

Market Day – Wednesday 22 October

This Wednesday is Market Day involving three Year 10 classes of students.

There will be 23 stalls selling a range of sweet and savoury products as well as drinks.

Design Your Own Helmet Competition 2026

The Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty Council are thrilled to announce that the 2026 Design Your Own Helmet Competition is officially open!

Earlier this year, five talented Tauranga students were surprised when their winning helmet designs were brought to life and presented to them while filming a video about the importance of wearing a helmet. You can check out the highlights here:

Now it’s your turn to get creative! Entries close on Friday, 27 February 2026, so there’s plenty of time to unleash those artistic skills and road safety smarts.

Measles Cases in Aotearoa

Recent measles cases linked to overseas travel have been reported in Te Tai Tokerau and Queenstown. Cases were active in the community while infectious and there is a risk of measles circulating there, and more widely in Aotearoa.

 

Points to share with parents, caregivers and the school community:

  • Measles is very contagious and can make people of any age very sick.
  • Watch for measles symptoms – fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes and a blotchy rash.

  • If anyone in your whānau has measles symptoms keep them home and contact a doctor or Healthline urgently on 0800 611 116.
  • Vaccination is the best protection from measles. Check all whānau are immunised.

  • Anyone closely exposed to measles who has not received two MMR vaccinations cannot attend their school | kura for at least eight days.
