Ōtūmoetai College Volleyball offers two pathways: Social Volleyball and Competitive Volleyball.

Major tournaments are in Term 1 for Seniors and Term 4 for Juniors.

Selection Process

Juniors – During Term 1 and end of Term 3

Seniors – During Term 4 and start of Term 1

Training Times

Social Volleyball
• One lunch time training a week – These trainings will be run by the school.

Competitive Volleyball
• Four Trainings a week  – These trainings will be run by the school. (This includes after school trainings, one lunchtime training and a Volleyball specific strength and conditioning session).

Event Dates / Game Days

Season – Juniors Tuesday nights and Seniors Thursday nights

BOPSS Senior Champs – 3 weekends during Term 1

NZSS Senior Champs – Summer Tournament Week (March) – Palmerston North

BOPSS Junior Champs – 3 weekends during Term 4

NISS Junior Champs – Junior Summer Tournament Week (November) – Auckland

Year 9 and 10 Boys Volleyball – Term 1

Social Volleyball
• One lunch time training a week – These trainings will be run by the school.
• Tuesday night game – Teams will need a parent manager for the games (no manager – no play)
• Tuesday weekly games held at the New Haumaru Sport Centre.

Competitive Volleyball
• Four Trainings a week  – These trainings will be run by the school. (This includes two after school trainings, one lunchtime training and a Volleyball specific strength and conditioning session).
• Tuesday night game – Coaches and managers will be provided by the school.

Cost 
Term 1 – $70

Year 11, 12 & 13 Boys Volleyball – Term 1 – There are three main events in Term 1.

Event 1 – Tauranga Volleyball League (All senior Teams)
* Weekly games held at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre or Mercury Arena – Bay Park.
* Thursday nights – Dates to be confirmed

Players are required to make their own way to games on Thursday nights. Car-pooling is recommended.

Event 2 – BOP Secondary School Seniors Volleyball Tournament (All competitive volleyball teams)
* Day 1 – 11 th Feb, Tauranga Boys College (A Team only)
* Day 2 – Time and Venue TBC (A Team only)
* Day 3 & 4 – 27 th and 28 th February, QEYC, Haumaru or Mercury Arena, Tauranga
* Day 5 to 7 – 13 th to 15 th March, QEYC, Haumaru or Mercury Arena, Tauranga

This is the BOP qualifying tournament for the New Zealand Secondary School Nationals. The results of this tournament influence teams seeding at Nationals. Players are required to make their own way to games, car-pooling is recommended. The school will provide transport for any games held outside of the Tauranga area.

Event 3 – New Zealand Secondary School Nationals (Senior A & B Teams only)
* Palmerston North – 22nd to 28th March (Sun to Sat)

Costs (approx.) Invoice’s for these will be sent out in term 1
1. Thursday night games = $70
2. BOP Champs = $75 (extra $20 for the A team only, to cover the cost of van hire on day 2 of the BOP
champs).
3. National = $1100 (approximately – more information to come – full cost must be paid before the trip).

Pre-Season Training
Week 1 – (14 th to 16 th Jan) – Wed, Thru, Fri (10am to 12pm)
Week 2 – (19 th , 22 nd , 23 rd Jan) – Mon, Thur, Fri (10am to 12pm)
Week 3 – (27 th to 30 th Jan) – Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri (10am to12pm)

There will also be preseason S & C session – dates and times TBC
In Season Practice Times (starting Monday 2nd February)
* Monday 6.30 to 8pm
* Wednesday 6.30 to 8am
* Friday 3.20 to 5pm
* Thursday lunch time

Strength & Conditioning – Tuesday – 3.30 to 4.15pm
If a player cannot make a training it is their responsibility to let the coach know, not parents. Non-attendance
to trainings could affect playing time.
