This is a massive milestone for our football programme, with ŌTC qualifying for Nationals for the first time in a number of years. Every training session, every challenge, and every moment of hard work has led to this incredible achievement.

To every player who attended the trials, congratulations on the effort and commitment you brought. The standard of rugby on display was incredibly high, making selection a challenging process. For those who missed out this time, keep working hard, continue developing your game, and stay ready for the next opportunity. With 38 players from this year’s trials still eligible next year, your journey is far from over.

Go well, boys — we’re proud of you all!

Barbarians Rugby

⚫️⚪️ RESULTS ➡️ NEXT ROUND ⚪️⚫️

Rugby has a way of keeping us humble.

Some weekends bring silverware. Others bring lessons. This weekend brought plenty of opportunities to reflect, learn, and grow.

🏉 Weekend Results

U16 | Barbarians 19–22 Raukura Tosi

U14 | Barbarians 7–45 Raukura Newby

1st XV | Barbarians 26–43 Papamoa College

While the scoreboards didn’t fall our way, there were moments in every game that reflected the character of this club. The U16s were just one score away, and across all three matches our players continued to compete, support one another, and wear the black and white with pride.

We don’t define ourselves by one weekend.

We reflect honestly, learn from the experience, and move forward together.

Now our attention turns to the final games before a well-earned two-week break.

🏉 Next Round

🆚 Western Heights High School (U16)
📅 Friday 3rd July
📍 Away
⏰ 4:00pm KO

🆚 Te Puke High School (1st XV)
📅 Saturday 4th July

Following these matches, our teams will enjoy a two-week break before competition resumes in the week beginning 20th July.

A huge thank you to our coaches, managers, whānau, volunteers, supporters, and sponsors. Your commitment continues to make Barbarians Rugby a club built on more than results.

One Club. One Culture. All In.

Ngā mihi nui,

STRONGER TODAY. PERFORM BETTER TOMORROW. 💪🏽🟢

At Ōtūmoetai College Sport, we believe physical development is not an “extra” — it is an essential part of helping young athletes thrive.

New research reviewing 17 randomised controlled trials across team sports found that structured strength training can:

✅ Reduce injury risk by 30–70%

✅ Improve sprint speed, jump height and power

✅ Enhance movement quality and resilience

✅ Support long-term athletic development and wellbeing

Most importantly, the evidence shows these benefits are especially valuable for youth athletes involved in sports such as football, netball, volleyball, rugby and basketball.

Our ŌTC Strength & Conditioning Programme is designed to do exactly that:

🏋🏽 Build stronger, more resilient athletes

⚡ Improve movement efficiency and athletic performance

🧠 Develop confidence, discipline and physical literacy

🛡 Help reduce preventable injuries and time away from sport

High performance is built over time — not just during a season.

That is why we strongly encourage all ŌTC student-athletes to commit to year-round physical development alongside their sport-specific training. Consistency matters. Quality movement matters. Long-term development matters.

Whether students are aiming for representative honours, premier sport, or simply wanting to enjoy sport for longer and perform at their best, structured S&C training provides the foundation.

  • Stronger athletes.
  • Healthier athletes.
  • Better prepared athletes.
