Beach Volleyball is rapidly growing in New Zealand school and Ōtūmoetai College is fortunate enough to have it’s own sand court on site!
Beach volleyball is competitively played 2 on 2. However some player’s enjoy playing 4 on 4 or 6 on 6 as well
The Beach Volleybal scene in Tauranga kicks of in Spring each year with ‘have a go’ days and trials being held towards the end of term 3.
There will be Junior Secondary School (JSS) events and Senior Secondary School (SSS) events in them 4, hosted by Volleyball Bay of Plenty (VBOP)
VBOP will also begin hosting social leagues and competitive tournaments at Mount Maunganui Main Beach as we move closer towards the Middle of Summer.
Senior player can try their hand against some other local players and earn points to help them enter higher level events. Serious players can event travel to enter other regional tournaments.

The season continues through the Summer and into Term 1 with the Inter-Provential Champs (IPC) and the Secondary School Beach Champs, both hosted by Volleyball New Zealand (VNZ) in January and February.
Finally, the season is completed towards the end of Term 1 with the G.J. Gardener Pro tour for the best athletes in New Zealand. And then followed by an international event called ‘Futures’.
Through Term 4 and Term 1, the Sand Court at Ōtūmoetai College will constantly be full of players; improving their skills, soaking up the sun, training for events, and having fun!
