Year 9 Students – Day 1 Induction

The first day for our Year 9 students is on Tuesday 31 January 2023.

Students will begin the day by meeting in the Action Centre carpark (just off Windsor Road) by 8.45am so they can be welcomed onto the school with a short pōhiri at our school whare, Okohanga.

Following this welcome, students will then proceed to the Performing Arts Centre where they will be assigned their form class. Students will then go with their Form Teacher to their classroom and spend some time getting to know their classmates, have a guided tour of the school campus, and have any of their questions answered.

In the afternoon, trained Year 12 and 13 STARs mentors will run team building activities.

The day will finish at 3.05pm.

What to wear and bring

Students should be in correct uniform. Students will not need to bring their full range of stationery for their first day at high school. However, they should bring:

  • PLEASE BRING YOUR CHROMEBOOK
  • School bag
  • Refill paper
  • Pen
  • Lunch/morning tea
  • Water bottle

The canteen will be open for lunch purchases. Your child will not be permitted to leave the school grounds until the day finishes at 3.05pm.

Note: School buses will be running from late January, tying in with the start of the school year. There are bike racks located behind C Block (Technology) for cycling to school. Please ensure your child has a lock for their bike.

Day 2

Wednesday 1st February 2023 marks the second day of a two day Year 9 Induction Programme.

“You are us.”

These two days will help you to become more familiar with who we are at Otūmoetai College, and how our school culture of inclusiveness, respect, achievement and success will shape your time here as part of our school. We hold our school values with mana and hold tightly to who we are, and what makes us Ōtūmoetai College.

Purpose of Induction

The purpose of our induction programme is to ensure that students feel connected, comfortable and safe at our school.

The activities students undertake will help them to recognise aspects of identity and collaboration that we value at Ōtūmoetai College.

These activities will be further complemented through learning experiences in your core and option subjects where time will be devoted to exploring further aspects of identity and collaboration.
