Barbarians Rugby Fundraiser

The annual Barbarians Rugby Fundraiser was held on Friday 21st April at the Mount Maunganui Golf Club – THE PROFESSOR HEADS TO TAURANGA – WAYNE SMITH.

Wayne Smith was our guest speaker and Phil Gifford was our MC.  Wayne conveyed several pertinent messages and stories throughout the evening and was a very popular guest speaker.

Once again, the event sold out immediately and has become a popular opportunity for corporate businesses to support grassroots sports, like our rugby programme.

Please view the programme here including our Sponsors and the popular auction items that were up for grabs.

We also raised approximately $3,000 for our charity GOOD NEIGHBOUR and for RED CROSS, re: Cyclone Gabrielle.  Therefore, giving $1,500 to each worthy cause.

A profit of around $40,000 was made over the whole evening.

This year The Barbarians Rugby Programme are donating half the proceeds to the Ōtūmoetai College Sports Programme, which will help all sporting codes to prosper.

The Barbarians Rugby Fundraiser was well supported by our Board of Trustees and a big thank you to Bryce Lawrence and Peter Blackwell, who are the backbone of this event.

Finally, we remain very grateful to:  Sean Lett, Mark Francis and Dean Waddell as our loyal sponsors.
