Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Pinnacles Tramp
“Sunday morning started bright and cheerful, 2 hours drive and everyone was still bright and cheerful. Beautiful weather, amazing year 10 girls, and we conquered Pinnacles tramp to the hut in 2 hours 45 minutes. Still pretty bright and cheerful – although a little sweaty!
A break for food and a cuppa. Then on up to the top for the most incredible views. Back to the hut for dinner, back up to the saddle for sunset. Monday morning saw the helicopter land to drop off personnel and then we headed down.
The pace was fast! Back to the van at 10am. Fantastic trip, students and weather. Thanks Emma Henderson for accompanying us”. – Mrs Nicola King.
National Programming Contest for Girls
Yesterday four of our Year 10 girls competed in the National Programming Contest for Girls at the University of Waikato – Tauranga Campus.
We were the only school that entered two teams and our girls were awesome at problem-solving, and creating Python solutions to the problems in the shortest possible time.
We won first and fourth place in the Bay of Plenty. Congratulations!

Gold Recipient for the Student Volunteer Award
Emilee Akenson (12KRL) is our 11th Gold recipient for the Student Volunteer Award.
Emilee has been awarded the prestigious Gold Pin, a national accolade that recognises exceptional service to others. To achieve this esteemed recognition Emilee devoted an impressive 500 hours to volunteering within our community, diligently logging her hours since 2020.
Her impactful contributions as a dedicated volunteer span various areas, showcasing both her passion and commitment:
Riding for the Disabled
- Catching, tacking, and grooming horses
- Catching, grooming, and putting horses into floats
- Ensuring the safety of children by fitting helmets and riding boots
- Leading horses during lessons with children
- Washing down horses and maintaining clean stalls
Early Childhood
- Engaging with children through reading, providing support and in art and physical activities
Bethlehem Gardens
- Undertaking tasks such as weeding, moving compost and organising morning teas
Good Neighbour
- Excelling in various administration jobs
Despite her quiet demeanour, Emilee’s drive and commitment have left and indelible mark. Emilee is not only a caring and considerate student but exudes empathy. Emilee’s dedication has not gone unnoticed, and Ōtūmoetai College expresses heartfelt gratitude for her outstanding service to others. We commend her on this tremendous achievement and wish her every success in her future endeavours.
