Maadi Cup Regatta Triumph: A Week of Success for Ōtūmoetai College

Twizel, New Zealand  – Ōtūmoetai College rowers left their mark on the Maadi Regatta, carving a path to success over a week of phenomenal weather and fierce competition.

The Aon Maadi Regatta is the National Championships for school rowing in New Zealand. It is the largest rowing regatta in New Zealand, with 140 schools and 2147 rowers participating at Lake Ruantaniwha from 18-23 March 2024.

With a strong team of 13 ŌTC athletes, 8 of whom powered their way into an A or B final, the regatta was a testament to dedication, teamwork, and exceptional sportsmanship.

Weather conditions in Twizel proved to be nothing short of phenomenal. The calm waters and sunny skies provided the ideal backdrop for our rowers to push their limits and deliver their best performances. The team spirit was high, with all 13 athletes supporting each other throughout the heats, repechages, and culminating final races.

ŌTC’s commitment to sportsmanship shone brightly, earning us the coveted title of “School of the Day” on Monday for exemplary conduct, sportsmanship and camaraderie.

One thing is certain: Ōtūmoetai College rowers, parents and staff left Twizel with hearts full of pride and a regatta experience never to be forgotten.

In section play, beat Orewa 3-0, beat Papamoa 3-0, beat Long Bay 3-0 to make top 16.

In post section, beat Howick 3-1, then beat Nayland 3-1 to make the top 8

Then we lost to St Andrew’s 0-3 to get a tougher quarter final. In the quarter final we played our best game to beat St Margaret’s College 3-1 to make the semi finals and the top 4.

In the semi we lost to Christchurch Girls 0-3 and the 3/4 playoff lost to St Andrew’s again 0-3

We punched above our weight in this competition and I was very pleased with how the girls stuck with it. Top 4 in NZ was amazing!

Congratulations to Tiani Rae who made the NZ SS Tournament team!

Senior Boys A, Senior Boys B and Senior Girls B, all made the quarter-finals in their respective divisions.

Summer Tournament Week – Futsal Northern Regional Cup

These amazing students played hard and both our Junior Boys and Junior Girls won tight finals.

Junior Boys 4 – 3 over Long Bay College

This qualifies them for Nationals in 2025.

The Senior Boys had a few injuries but ended up coming third after pool play.

They faced TBC in 3rd/4th playoff with no subs.

They played with grit and determination to win – claiming 3rd.

Summer Tournament Week – Cricket Venus Cup
