Creative Arts Week
During Term 2, Week 2, Ōtumoetai College came alive with colour, sound, and creativity as we celebrated Creative Arts Week, a vibrant showcase of the amazing arts opportunities our school has to offer.
Each day brought a new way for students to get involved. Monday kicked off with electrifying rock band performances that had the whole school buzzing. On Tuesday, students added their thumbprints to a collaborative Maunga tree, symbolising unity through art. Wednesday the ever-popular toilet paper fashion show, where teams created runway ready designs. Thursday turned up the volume with a fun-filled karaoke session, and the week wrapped up on Friday with high-energy creative arts relays that combined teamwork, imagination, and laughter.
It was a week that truly highlighted the diverse talents and enthusiasm of our artistic Ōtumoetai College students.
Breakfast Club
A Breakfast Club has now started at Ōtūmoetai College every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8-8.30am. Everyone is welcome to come along and have some kai and a hot drink before kura begins.
We have partnered up with the Fonterra Breakfast Programme and have been provided with weet-bix and milk. However, we also provide extra items such as Up&Gos, toast and spreads, muesli bars and fruit and we are now looking for more donations around these extra items.
If you are interested in donating towards the Breakfast Club at Ōtūmoetai College please get in touch with the teacher in charge via cgalloway@otc.school.nz
Community Emergency Hub – Readiness Drill
These hubs play a vital role in preparing our local community for times of need. If you live within a 10-minute walk of the school, we encourage you to join our next session: a practical emergency response drill on Sunday 25 May, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, held at our school’s Performing Arts Centre.
Your presence truly makes a difference.
SADD Event
SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara – Students Against Dangerous Driving at Ōtūmoetai College is a thriving, passionate group of young students this year. They have been speaking at each Year Level assembly to promote SADD.
This week they organised an obstacle course for students to go through while wearing vision impairment goggles. They invited local police and the travel safe co-ordinator from Tauranga City Council along to support them.
It was great to see our SADD leaders organise, lead and run their first event. There will be plenty more to come from this inspiring group of young leaders.
