SVA Volunteer Week

Our recent Youth Volunteer Week was a fantastic success thanks to the enthusiasm of all those involved! Over the course of the week, 13 teachers offered a variety of jobs ranging from cleaning, picking up rubbish, pumping up balls, covering Library and English books, and handing out flyers.

Our passionate volunteers rallied to fill nearly 70 roles, dedicating their time before, during, and after school with some even participating multiple times throughout the week. The feedback from our teachers was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how much they appreciated the help in the busy classroom environment.

One teacher shared, “The students who turned up were fantastic! It was so helpful to have them assist us and we’d love to do it again!”

A big thank you to all the students and teachers who participated and those who dedicated their time in organising this. We plan to continue this tradition in hopes of making a real difference to our school and wider community, one volunteer at a time. – Hannah Richards

Recent Mufti Day to Raise Funds for Waipuna Hospice

Thanks to the generous donations collected from students on our last mufti day, we were able to donate $1959 to Waipuna Hospice.

The hospice staff were very appreciative of our contribution as they rely heavily on community support to continue providing their invaluable services to those who need them.

WĒTĀ Workshop Unleashed Trip

On Wednesday, 21 May, a group of Digital Technology: Creative Design students, along with several Art department students, visited WĒTĀ Workshop Unleashed in Auckland, accompanied by Mr. Atvars and Mrs. Strauss.

The students were amazed by the impressive special effects, props, and larger-than-life sets. They stepped into a spectacular world filled with robots, monsters, aliens, and dinosaurs brought vividly to life, and had the chance to see, interact with, and experience the movie making process up close.

Following the WĒTĀ tour, the group visited the Media Design School, where they explored a wide range of courses and future opportunities available after college. Once again, students were inspired by the worlds of filmmaking and game design and were thrilled by the creative possibilities that lay ahead.

Ball Dress & Suit Rentals

Students at our kura have been working on getting second-hand ball dresses and suit rentals available for students to rent. We understand that school balls can be expensive, so we want to make sure that students at our kura have access to an affordable option.

If your child may be interested, try on days will be running Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes in G9, starting week 6. Students will have the opportunity to come look at and try on the dresses and suits. The items will be priced at $20 per outfit – eftpos available, cleaning included.

If your child may be interested, please let them know.

Bay of Plenty Smokefree Rockquest Heats

The Bay of Plenty Smokefree Rockquest Heats were recently held at Baycourt.

32 students (10 acts) took part from Ōtūmoetai College, and they did a great job of representing our school.

B- Sides (Liliana Smith, Connor Rowan, Ethan Cleave, Oliver Wilson) and Sewerside Rats (Georgi Gregory) have progressed through to the Bay of Plenty Regional Final. This will be held Friday 13th June at 11 Totara Street, Mount Maunganui.
