Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ Company

By Year 12 student Aadit Tandon

The process of becoming part of this company began last year, through a competition involving over 5000 students from across the country. Through a series of competitions, courses and workshops, the top 24 had been selected. I was fortunate enough to be one of them.

The trip was 3 weeks long, the main goal being performing on the historic Globe stage in London. We rehearsed our show, Romeo and Juliet, where I had the opportunity to play Romeo. As well as that, we took part in countless workshops with industry professionals working at the globe or with the West End, not only expanding my horizons in Shakespeare but the performing arts overall.

We also were able to immerse ourselves within the arts and culture in London and Stratford Upon Avon, where we could learn the history behind Shakespeare and truly appreciate the piece we were honoured to perform.

The Young Shakespeare Company experience truly opened my eyes as to just how many avenues there are with pursuing the arts as a career, and has re-shaped me as not only a performer, but a person.
