Art/Nature – Group Art Show
This is an exciting collaboration between a group of talented NZ artists who have created their works on a unique canvas – macrocarpa skateboards.
These skateboard wall hangings are extra special. Manufactured by Paper Rain in Mount Maunganui using macrocarpa timber sourced from a small planting in Marlborough. We cut, sand and engrave these for the artists who take them and create their magic. The end result is a unique, one-off piece of artwork.
Congratulations to the only secondary school students to be involved!
‘Patience’ by Zac Baveystock
“This painting depicts one of the most important aspects of life for both humans and animals, patience. The clock paired with the kingfisher symbolises the time we spend waiting for the right moment, as the kingfisher is known to patiently wait for the perfect timing to dive and catch its prey. This painting was created in the aim to portray a metaphor which joins the bridges between human and animals. I have chosen this because my yr 13 art board theme is an analysis of our perception of animals and the effects they can have on both the animal and ourselves”.
‘Bathed in light’ by Tay Collinson
“In light she is receiving, hopeful and open. In its absence she is in mourning. I have used monochrome oil paints and gold leaf to express how easily our emotions are influenced by lighting. The defining aspect of ‘bathed in light’ is the light, not the woman. My folio board will be a continuation of this analysis on lighting, using it as a tool to express emotion”.
‘Salary?’ by Lucy Couston
“Why is food so expensive? This celery/salary piece is the start of my exploration into the disparity in food prices in Aotearoa New Zealand, a theme I will expand on for my Y13 painting portfolio. Following in the tradition of still life, I use acrylic paint to capture the detail, light, shadows and reflections of a variety of unexpected objects, looking at them with new eyes”.
