Barbarians First XV Prizegiving

On Saturday, in beautiful conditions and a divine setting at Ben and Lisa Mead’s house in Clarke Road, we held our formal (relaxed) prize-giving.

The prizegiving was well attended and by our players, their whanau and our wider community.

A big thank you to Todd and Lisa Mead for hosting this event at their residence and for the catering.  This allowed us to host a prize-giving that was within Covid regulations.

Not only were players recognised, so too were Jason Rowling from Good Neighbour, Peter Blackwell (Chairperson of our Advisory Group) and our loyal and generous sponsors, Sean Lett from 2Wel and Mark Francis from Tremains.

We also wish to thank our Principal, Russell Gordon and Hannalie Freeman, Deputy Principal at Bethlehem College who spoke so graciously, sincerely and humorously of our rugby programme.

Bryce Lawrence did a fantastic job by recognising each and every player for their service, dedication and qualities.  This was a very inclusive prize-giving, acknowledging that all parts make up the sum.  While a few get recognised with cups, we understand that it is a team game and everyone contributes in a way that allows the whole team to succeed.

The winners of the awards in 2021 were:

Most Courageous – Sam Tulia
Most Improved – Paul Mafi
Athlete of Year – Jackson Runga
Team First (Character) – Corey Stafford
Leadership – Nico Brown
Players/Player – Ben Mead
Player of the Year – Ben Mead

As always, thank you for the continued support we receive. – Richard Brown
