Young Enterprise Regional Success

Well done to Otumoetai College students for their success in the Young Enterprise Competition. This is a Nationwide competition where students produce, market and sell a product.

They also won first place regionally for the Teamwork Award, Biggest Contributor Award and the Innovation Award. Amber Harrison was announced a National Finalist for the CEO Award and her company “Kiwication” gained one of the National Awards and are off to Wellington for the Young Enterprise National Awards Ceremony. Tough Guy & Gal Mud Run

Year 13 Sports Science and Outdoor Education students finally got to compete in the Tough Guy and Gal mud run at Lakes Ranch, Rotorua on Tuesday.

The postponement date meant the course was a bit drier and faster than normal but there was still plenty of mud and many obstacles to negotiate over the 6 km course. NCEA ‘Performance’ credits were also up for grabs.

Whakamāramahia i a Matariki Art Competition

Tuesday 27th October was when Okohanga hosted our very first "Whakamāramahia i a Matariki" Art Competition where entrants had their mahi on exhibition in Okohanga for all to see and judges to make their choices on 1st and 2nd place, and everyone in attendance able to choose a People's Choice Award.

1st place: Aroha Stock

2nd equal: Waiari Kohu-Matika and Alex Williamson

Alex also won the People's Choice Award.

Their pieces will be silent auctioned at the Māori and Pasifika Awards Evening (next Wednesday 4th November) with the Artist taking all profits. Well done Artists. We look forward to your entries and many more next year.

Digital Devices Reminder

To support the staff with following the procedure around devices we ask parents/caregivers not to communicate with a student during class time.

The ruling about devices is that they are to remain in bags (not pockets, not under the desk, not in pencil cases), unless invited out by the teacher.

If a device is out uninvited the student will be asked to hand it to their teacher who will return it at the end of the period. If this is a repeated happening a device is confiscated and handed to the office to be collected at the end of the week.

Students will have the opportunity to check their devices at Interval (11-11.20) and Lunch (1.30-2.15).

Statistics Scholarship Day

"Last week a group of students attended a scholarship statistics day at Aquinas College.

The day was organised by local teachers after the Waikato University day was cancelled due to COVID- 19.

Our students represented the school, and themselves well. They were able to show off their talents by answering lots of questions, and engaging in the day with enthusiasm.

The students and teachers came away buzzing with renewed enthusiasm and feeling prepared for the upcoming exam.

The students enjoyed learning from teachers with different styles, and came away with some great resources.

In attendance were: Frances Smith, Jarrod Ong, Bethany Lake, Amy Miedema & Taila Jackson." - Annie Barnett
